Okay, this one's not for a hobby. I need it for work that I'm doing. I was sent an xls file and have no clue how to read it. I've never used any kind of Spreadsheet application. I know that Microsoft Office has one but I really don't want all those extra aps and I don't know how difficult it would be to uninstall certain components of the suite. So I downloaded Open Office to give it a try and am finding that it's not as accessible as I thought it would be. Can I use it better with scripts? I have JFW 9.something here. If not, then is there a stand-alone application for reading xls files or a converter that would make them readable/editable? Thanks.
Your best bet, if you have it, is to get MicroSoft Exel and use it. Scripts are already developped and it isn't that hard to read files in most cases.
I've tried open office with the same results you got: not accessible.

Thanks. I'll get it.
In the office install you can choose to just install excel just choose custom install and only check excel (and or th eother apps from it you want to install) and you should be good to go.
Opa! Thanks. That should make life a whole lot easier.
Excel isn't cheap, or maybe I am.

lol I never worry about stuff like that.
